McCraney Lake - Day 3
Waking up today would be the best day of the weekend. The weather was beautiful, well at least compared to the last two days. Everyone got some much-needed breakfast in them to get ready for an eventful day.
It was finally time to get into our canoes to explore the lake. Across from our campsite on the small island of McCraney Lake is the portage to Clara Lake. On this portage, a waterfall goes down into McCraney Lake, which you can hear from the island. If you keep going southeast along the shoreline around the bend, you can see part of the waterfall.
After enjoying the waterfall and a few casts, we started to paddle down towards the dam. You pass the white campsite. I have heard from online that this campsite has not been used/maintained. My friends checked it out the day before and said the same things. Grass is quite long; there was no good spots for tents, overall not a good campsite. Got to the dam, took some photos, and enjoyed the scenery.
The clouds have moved in, darker ones, we wanted to continue on our journey around the lake, but decided it was best to head back to the campsite. Around halfway back or so, it started to drizzle down on us. We hurried up to get back to site.
Once back to the site we made lunch and took it easy for a bit. We then gathered more wood and the weather was still looking okay so we decided to take down our tarps to enjoy the fire without having to be underneath a tarp. We played some euchre and other games around the campsite until night was upon us. We made our dinners and stayed up around the fire for a bit longer before it was time for bed. Tomorrow will be a long day canoeing back to reality.
